You Don't Need Another Gym Membership!
I am going to upset some people. Strap yourself in.
Here's The Hard Truth
If you've been doing the same workout for three years, and your body hasn't changed for the last two...
It's probably not because you're not trying hard enough. It's because your body has adapted.
That's not failure, it's biology.
One of the most established principles in exercise science is progressive overload. To continue getting stronger, fitter or more capable, your body needs a new challenge. That doesn't always mean lifting heavier weights, but it does mean changing the stimulus.
Sometimes the next step isn't working harder. It's working differently.
Reformer Pilates Is Still One Of The Best Things You Can Do
Let's get one thing straight.
We love Reformer Pilates. We built Brisbane Pilates because we believe in it.
Reformer teaches body awareness, control, balance and stability. It develops movement quality before adding load, which is one of the reasons so many people fall in love with it.
It's also brilliant at rotational training. Life doesn't happen in straight lines. Whether you're swinging a golf club, throwing a ball, picking up your kids or reaching into the back of the car, your body is constantly rotating while keeping your spine stable.
Reformer challenges rotation, anti-rotation and spinal stability in ways that carry over into everyday life and sport. Research has shown that trunk stability and rotational strength play an important role in efficient movement and injury prevention.
It teaches you how to move well.
Strength Training Teaches You To Be Strong
Eventually though, your body needs a different challenge.
Strength training develops force. It teaches you to squat, deadlift, push, pull, carry.
Research consistently shows that progressive resistance training improves strength, bone density, lean muscle mass, metabolic health and athletic performance. It's one of the most effective forms of exercise we have.
Pilates teaches movement. Strength training builds capacity.
Together, they're a combination that's hard to beat.
The Difference Isn't The Equipment
Barbells aren't special. Reformers aren't magic. Neither are sleds or kettlebells. They're simply tools.
The real difference is coaching. Anyone can watch an exercise on a screen. But a screen doesn't know your shoulder has been sore for two weeks. It doesn't notice your squat shifting to one side. It can't change today's workout because your knee is playing up. It won't challenge you when you're ready to lift heavier. Or remind you to slow down when your technique starts to slip.
A great coach does all of that.
The best program on paper isn't always the best program for you. Some days you'll walk in feeling unstoppable. Other days you'll arrive tired after work, recovering from an injury or simply not feeling your best.
That's where coaching matters. Real coaching adapts the workout to the person standing in front of them. Technology is a fantastic tool, but it should support coaching, not replace it. Because personalised coaching will always beat a generic workout.
Why Small Group Training Works
Small group training gives you the best of both worlds - professional coaching, individual feedback, safe progression.
And a community that genuinely wants to see you succeed.
You celebrate personal bests together, Laugh when the resistance feels twice as heavy as it should, encourage each other through the tough sessions.
Because fitness should be challenging ….. but it should also be fun.
Why We Built Strength Training Club
We didn't build Strength Training Club because Reformer Pilates wasn't enough.
We built it because our members were ready for the next step. They wanted to learn how to lift properly. They wanted expert coaching. They wanted the next results. The next challenge. Most importantly... They wanted to do it with coaches they already knew and trusted.
Fitness Should Grow With You
One of the things we love about being part of The Gap Health & Racquet Club is that we're not one big corporate fitness chain. Under one roof you'll find independently operated businesses, including the gym, recovery services, Brisbane Pilates and now Strength Training Club.
That gives you something many fitness businesses can't - choice.
You can focus on Reformer Pilates for a while. Move into strength training when you're ready. Train for a HYROX event. Spend more time in the gym. Then change direction again when life changes, or you need a new challenge.
There are no long-term lock-in contracts forcing you to keep paying for something you're not using. Your goals will change. Your training should be able to change with them.
Our Philosophy
We don't believe you should have to start over every time your goals change. We believe great coaching should grow with you. Whether you're here to move better. Lift heavier. Ride faster. Or simply become the strongest version of yourself.
You shouldn't need another gym membership. You just need your next challenge.
