We're More Than Just Pilates. And So Are Our Members.
It's a rainy day here in Brisbane, and I've found myself reflecting on just how much has changed over the past few months.
When we launched our Strength Training Club, I knew we were creating something special. But I don't think I fully appreciated the impact it would have, not just on our members, but on me as a trainer.
A few months in, and what a transformation it's been.
Our members have embraced strength training in a way that's been incredible to watch. They have a space dedicated to them, a place where they turn up, put in the work, challenge themselves and leave knowing they've achieved something.
But what I've loved most isn't necessarily the weights they're lifting or the exercises they're mastering. It's the change in mentality.
People who might never have considered themselves strong are starting to see themselves differently. They're becoming more confident, more capable and more willing to give something difficult a go.
And that, to me, is what training is all about.
17 People. 17 Decisions.
One of the highlights has been watching our HYROX Club develop.
We started with 17 people. Seventeen individuals who made a decision to commit to something that might have seemed a little intimidating at first.
Not everyone came in with a running background or experience lifting weights. Some were stepping well outside their comfort zones.
But every single one of them made the decision to start.
Watching their confidence grow, their skills improve and their belief in what they're capable of change has been one of the most rewarding parts of this whole experience.
We're already looking forward to welcoming our second HYROX training group in January 2027, and if you've been thinking about giving it a go, you're more than welcome to join us.
You don't have to be ready. You just have to be willing to start.
The Members Aren't the Only Ones Learning
I'll be the first to admit that we're learning too.
In a previous life, I worked as a personal trainer, and I've spent plenty of time competing in Spartan races and obstacle course events. Strength training and challenging physical events aren't new to me.
But the industry has changed enormously.
The education, research, technology and training methods available to us today are so far ahead of what I jokingly refer to as the before COVID days.
We're now able to use better information, more sophisticated testing and smarter programming to create training experiences that are more effective, more personalised and more purposeful.
And I love it.
It's challenged me to revisit what I thought I knew, learn new things and become a better trainer.
Strength Training Club hasn't just changed our members. It's changed me too.
And after more than 20 years in the fitness industry, that's a pretty exciting thing to be able to say.
Building Something That Lasts
I've always believed that a great fitness facility is about much more than equipment, classes or timetables.
It's about the people.
It's about developing great instructors, encouraging new trainers, creating opportunities and making sure our members receive the absolute best coaching we can provide.
If there's one thing I'd love to leave as part of my legacy in this industry, it's that.
A community where people feel confident enough to challenge themselves. A team of trainers who never stop learning. And an environment where exercise, even really hard exercise, can be fun.
Because let's face it, we don't all love every burpee, sled push or set of lunges while we're doing them!
But we love what happens when we keep showing up.
We started as a Reformer Pilates studio, and Pilates will always be a big part of who we are.
But we've grown. Our members have grown. And so have our ambitions.
We're more than just Pilates now.
And so are our members.
Because without resistance, there is no change.
