I Went to the Physio… and My Rehab Was Pilates (I Almost Died)

I Went to the Physio… and My Rehab Was Pilates (I Almost Died)

So I went to the physio.

Nothing dramatic. Just one of those “my body feels a bit off” situations that you ignore… until you can’t.

Anyway, I’m lying there thinking:
“This is fine. I’ll get a band, a stretch, maybe a little massage situation.”

No.

Cam looks at me and says:

“You should do Pilates.”

Excuse me?

Sir. I run a Pilates studio.

I was expecting something elite. Something advanced. Something… impressive.

Instead?

I got put on the mat and told to do the slowest, most controlled movements known to mankind.

And I almost died.

The humbling moment

You know when you think you’re strong?

And then someone makes you do something simple… properly?

That was me.

No momentum.
No rushing.
No “I’ll just use my hip flexors and hope for the best.”

Just:

Control.
Breath.
Actual muscle engagement.

Rude.

The part I didn’t expect

It worked.

Like… immediately.

Things felt more connected.
More stable.
Less “what is my body doing?”

And I had one of those moments where I went:

“Ohhh… this is how I got into this in the first place.”

Because before the studio, before the classes, before all of it, Pilates was about feeling better in my body.

Not just smashing workouts.

Also … I don’t do enough Reformer

There. I said it.

I spend a lot of time in the studio.
I teach. I coach. I watch.

But actually doing it consistently myself?

Not as much as I should.

And this was my reminder.

Because the moment you get back on …. properly ….. you remember:

  • why it works

  • why people stick to it

  • and why it’s not as “easy” as it looks

And don’t get me started on matwork

I miss it.

There’s nowhere to hide on the mat.

No springs to help you.
No carriage to guide you.

Just you … having a very honest conversation.

It’s simple. Brutal. Effective.

And apparently part of my rehab plan 😅

Final thought

So yes I went to the physio.

Yes I got told to do Pilates.

And yes I was humbled immediately.

But it was also a really good reminder that:

  • simple works

  • consistency matters

  • and sometimes going back to basics is exactly what I need, and probably you do too.

So if you’ve been thinking:
“I should probably get back into it…”

Same.

We’ll see you in class.
